REINE takes Times Square

On June 18th, 2012 at the intersection of 43rd and Broadway in New York my artwork spoke back to me. “This is only a Test” was selected by Artist Wanted in their Art Takes Times Square Artist Search. The competition concluded in Times Square as a global collection of art work flashed on big digital screens against the setting sun. Over the next couple weeks some of the art will move around to other billboard sites as a glowing, flashing, moving public art display.

The “TEST message” (I didn’t know which image they were going to choose) was the perfect message for me to receive back. The truth is I almost gave up on this competition. The voting procedure was difficult and faulty… communication was shabby and I don’t enjoy spamming my friends to vote, vote, vote more.  However, I pushed on… without being too pushy and I learned a lot. The biggest confirmation was my instincts are on target, there is a BIGGER space available for me to step into creatively and ‘I was’ simply ‘testing the waters’… I can feel that now. When saw the piece of art on the digital display for the first time and read, this is only a test…I smiled and winked at the universe! Got it.

… before all of this started I had a dream. I was handed 5 envelopes and the first one was congratulating my acceptance hours before the ‘official’ email actually arrived in my inbox the following morning.  The last envelope I did not open because it had a hand written message upon it which was VERY good news. I wonder… what would it take for that message to become a reality? Test complete… and the adventure continues….
